Since 1923, Intermountain Farmers Association has played a big part in the care and feeding of animals throughout the West. And from those beginnings, IFA has recognized the significant impact raising animals can have on the developing values and character of young people. That’s why IFA created the Young Producers Program—a program specifically designed to encourage youth to learn and practice correct principles of feeding and caring for animals.
Participant Eligibility and Benefits
Youth between the ages of 8 and 18, who raise an animal and practice care for showing, competing, or breeding purposes, are eligible. Participants can look forward to a customized cap, incentive vouchers, and a membership card that allows certain privileges throughout the year—not to mention the rewards that come with raising and caring for their own animals.Projects
Your project can range from a fill breeding program to competive showing, or it might be as basic as caring for animals as approved by your local IFA Country Store Manager. He or she can provide you with basic feeding, care, and nutritional information for most animal species. We also encourage Young Producers to learn all they can by talking with local farmers, ranchers, and veterinarians, and by joining organizations such as 4-H, FFA, or other associations and clubs.Program Procedure
- Register for the IFA Young Producers Program at any IFA Country Store or here.
- When your packet arrives you can use the enclosed discount vouchers immediately.
- During the course of your project, be sure to keep all receipts of your feed purchases.
- Your local IFA Store has a form to help you organize you receipts if you need one.
- This program is good for any feed IFA is selling.
- Young Producers is designed to assist 4-H and FFA youth with any animal feeding project. Feed relating to this project qualify for a 10% rebate at years end or at the conclusion of his/her project in the form of an IFA gift card.
How to Join
Simply fill out an enrollment form at your nearest IFA Country Store or online. Your membership is good for an entire calendar year, but if you haven’t completed your project within that time frame, simply renew your membership.Intermountain Farmers Association
IFA has a long history that, after 84 years in business, includes over 25 retail stores and 60 affiliated dealers throughout the Intermountain West. And that rich history also includes supporting and encouraging youth programs related to agriculture, such as 4-H, FFA, and other clubs. Because we know that raising and caring for animals can teach us a great deal about the world around us and about ourselves, we’re confident that today’s Young Producers will become tomorrow’s leaders! IFA “helping to grow the things you love.”10% rebates are allowed on these maximum bag levels per animal listed.

Building a Fence
How many yards of perimeter per acre?
An acre is a measure of area, it is 4840 square yards. We usually think of an acre as a rectangular plot of land but even then the perimeter is not fixed. For example a rectangle which is 44 yards by 110 yards has an area of:
44 x 110 = 4840 square yards (one acre)and its perimeter is:
44 + 44 + 110 + 110 = 308 yards.Also a rectangle that is 40 yards by 121 yards has an area of:
40 x 121 = 4840 square yards (one acre)and its perimeter is:
40 + 40 + 121 + 121 = 322 yardsIn fact if you have a field that is r yards by s yards where
r x s = 4840then this field is an acre in area and its perimeter is:r + r + s + s = 2r + 2sUnit Conversion
Use our unit conversion tool to determine how much materials you need to build your fence.
Electric Fence
How many strands of wire do I need?
- Less than one acre per horse, and on property that parallels a highway use at least 4 wires, 10 inch spacing, leave 20 inches from ground to bottom wire.
- More than one acre per horse, and on perimeter fencing, use 3 at least wires, 13 inch spacing, leave 24 inches from ground to bottom wire.
- Pasture separations and cell grazing use require only 2 wires, but anywhere there are foals require 4 wires.
- Stallions require 5 or 6 wires.
- Average height for most installations is 54 inches to the top of the post and 50 inches to the top wire.

Customers count on us for quality products, exceptional service and outstanding value. At IFA you'll find even more of the products you need. From classic favorites to exciting, new additions. IFA has great selection of products to fill your tack & farrier needs.
IFA is proud to feature the highest quality and finest crafted saddles, strap goods, farrier, bits and equine accessories available. We understand the importance of having the right fit for the horse and the rider.
The right fit for the right bit
When choosing a bit, it is very important that it fits in the horse's mouth comfortably. A ½? width should exist between the side of the horse's mouth and the side of the bit. The bit is positioned high enough in the mouth so that the horse doesn't put his tongue over the bit. A common mistake is when it is postioned to high, giving the horse a big "grin". This should be avoided. The snaffle bit is the most common type of bit. It acts on direct pressure. The curb bit works using leverage.
- Choosing a saddle
- One of the most important parts of choosing a saddle is finding one that fits. It needs to fit your horse properly. This means that it is balanced, so that it can position yourself so that you fit comfortably without needing to work to keep your balance on the saddle. Also, proper fitting will protect your horse from discomfort or injury. Generally, the space behind your seat to the top edge of the cantle should be approximately a hand's width and about 4 inches below the knee to the bottom of the flap. As you sit in the saddle, your legs should hang slightly behind you, but not so much that you tip forward. The saddle should feel natural and be comfortable, allowing you to be in a comfortable position.

- Bits
- A bit is piece of metal that is placed in the horse's mouth, although on occasion the bit may be made of other materials. Despite popular opinion, the bit does not rest on the teeth of the horse. The bit hangs in a space behind the front "cutting" teeth and in front of the back "grinding" teeth. This space is known as the "bar". When a horse is said to "grab the bit in its teeth" they actually mean that the horse hardens its lips and mouth against the bit to ignore the rider's commands. Bits offer varying degrees of control and communication between rider and horse depending upon their design.

There are several products in our line such as Cut Heal, Fura Ointment, Scarlet Oil, Tri-Care, Wonder Dust, Scarlex, Wound Kote, and Granulex V. How do I control flies? There are a multitude of ways to help control flies. The first line of defense is to drain standing water where flies breed. IFA sells several sprays. There are also several “feed through” products, or products the animals eat that contain fly control ingredients. These products are active in the manure, and kill fly eggs. In addition, there are several physical control products, such as traps, fly tape, etc. that are effective. How do I treat eye infections for dogs and cats? We recommend Terramycin Ophthalmic ointment. If the animal does not respond in short time, see a veterinarian. What is the best wormer for my dog? RFD Liquid is the most effective product we sell. Tasty Paste is our most popular dog wormer. I suspect my dog has worms. How can I tell and how to I treat for them? Weight loss, poor condition, vomiting, evidence of worms in stools, dull coat, and respiratory problems are all symptoms. Use any of the wormer products, following label directions. When does my puppy need his first shots? At 8 to 9 weeks of age, and then every 2 to 4 weeks until 18 weeks of age.
